| when i go out to eat, i always get water. i don't even drink while i eat. when i finish eating, i chug some water and rarely finish it. i just feel it's a rip off the pay $2 for a couple of ounces. and besides, water is healthier. well, i noticed when denny's advertised this free grand slam, there was no catch. there was no fine print at the bottom saying that a drink must be purchased. so, when i got there for an early lunch today, you can imagine my irritation when the server informed me that i had to buy a drink to get the free meal. the drink and tax turned out to be almost $3! i would have rather gone to taco cabana and gotten 2 black bean tacos. they are much better anyways. so, i really think this is a classic case of false advertisement. i wonder how much money i could get out of this in court... | | |
| Why are you striving these days Why are you trying to earn grace Why are you crying Let me lift up your face Just don't turn away Why are you looking for love Why are you still searching as if I'm not enough To where will you go child Tell me where will you run To where will you run And I'll be by your side Wherever you fall In the dead of night Whenever you call And please don't fight These hands that are holding you My hands are holding you Look at these hands and my side They swallowed the grave on that night When I drank the world's sin So I could carry you in And give you life I want to give you life Cause I, I love you I want you to know That I, I love you I'll never let you go | | |
| ok, no. i'm not doing a blog everyday. but since i'm here, i'll just let you know what my first day back was like. this is going to be short. we had some issues getting a ride from the airport. we kinda waited too late to ask around for a ride. i posted on facebook and didn't get a response and so ben sent out a few emails. we got a ride then lost it twice. it got a little complicated and anyways, we weren't 100% sure if we would have a ride when we got to the airport. but when we got there it turns out that we had 2! ha ha. anyways, we got home and brushed our teeth and took showers. ben tried to unpack and get a little more settled but there was no way i was going to do anything but sleep. i was pretty sick by this point. so, i slept like a rock for about 12 hours. then, i slept normally for another 2 hours. i woke up and went to work. so sad. back to reality. | | |
| well, we were supposed to leave on day 16 but since the flight turned out to be at 2:15am and we had to be at the airport at 11:30pm, there really wasn't a day 16 in singapore. it was on the airplane. our last full day in singapore was a little sad. we didn't want to leave. we walked ashley to school again at the butt-crack of dawn and picked up breakfast at lorong 8 market again. i was feeling much better but still a little sick so we didn't get anything fried. we went back and ate breakfast and took a nap. after the nap, we did some last minute shopping at orchard and got some snacks and stuff. we had lunch at mos burger, a japanese fast food place. it was good and we kept some chili sauce packets to take back to houston. we started to pack our stuff and a friend of ours who is moving to houston this summer brought some stuff for us to take to houston. we had plenty of space so it worked out well. i finally got everything packed and hopefully, i didn't forget anything. we watched the last episode of the little nonya which was REALLY good. after that, we gathered our stuff and left for the airport. we took a cab and said our good-byes at the house instead of the airport. when we got to the airport, we had plenty of time to kill. we walked around and looked at all the shops. it's like a mall in that airport. VERY different and much nicer than IAH. we decided to get 30 minute massages. i wanted one but didn't get around to it in singapore so this was my last shot. ben got one too. it was cheap and good. by the time that was over, it was almost time to board. we boarded the plane. we were seated while other people were still boarding and i heard someone say, "ben!". i wasn't going to bother turning my head 'cause it's such a common name. but lo and behold, it was a couple of our friends who happened to be on the same flight! too bad we weren't sitting close. the first flight was packed. but the second one was pretty empty so we moved to a middle row and had 3 seats to ourselves! that was nice. we really enjoyed singapore airlines much better than northwest. the food was better and the entertainment was fabulous. there were SO many movies to chose from. they also had tv shows, music and games. the flight attendants came by very often to offer drinks and snacks between the meals which was really good since i was trying to stay hydrated and fighting a cold. i heard that they aren't doing well on the houston routes and might have to shut down their houston flights. SO, i encourage you all to fly to singapore using singapore airlines! support this great cause and you will not be disappointed! | | |
| i woke up feeling much better! still not 100%, but much better. in order to ensure better health this morning, i took some meds the last night. these meds may have helped me sleep a little better, more like a pig. so, i slept a little late. ben saw me sleeping like a pig and knew i needed it so he let me sleep. i finally woke up at about 9:30 and by the time i got ready for church, it was a bit too late. ben's church is kinda far. so, we just went with his sister to her church. it was nice but i still prefer ben's church.
after church, we all met up with ashley for lunch at toa payoh central. we had wanton noodles and soup. it was good and cheap. then, we went to fair price (a grocery store) and got some rojak sauce and peanuts! mmmmm rojak in houston!
i've been eating a lot of kueh bangkit! omg, that stuff is SO good! but also bad. once i start, cannot stop! we're bringing a little bit back but it wont last long. randall, we've got some bak kuah with your name on it and we'll be sure to invite you over when we make rojak. we are your diet's worst nightmare! mwuah ha ha ha!
so, after the grocery store, we went back home and a couple of ben's aunts and a distant cousin came over for a visit! it was really nice to get to visit with them! they are all really sweet. they shared some stories about ben's grandparents and it was good to get to know his family history a little better. than, we all went to dinner at a small hawker center right across the street from the flat. for some reason, it was the first time i've ever been. there was a really nice seafood place there and the food was really good.
then, the family left and we went back home. on the way back, me, ben, his sister and ashley decided to stop by the stones on the ground for a walk. for those who don't know, there are stones cemented to the ground, usually in circles, with a handrail along the side. these are made in abundance around the HDB flats. they are made for people to walk on. people believe that every organ in your body is linked to your feet, i guess by nerves. so, by walking on the stones, it improves your blood circulation and the functionality of all your organs. it REALLY hurts at first, but after you do it alot, it doesn't hurt. i've only done it a few times. but afterwards, your feet feel really good.
nearby, there was a guy selling ice cream on a cart! YAY! desert! this time, we decided to get the whole block since it was cheaper than individual sandwiches. we all wanted mint chocolate chip but ben didn't want. every party has a pooper. so, ben decided to get some homemade stuff that they served, made from atap seed. he convinced me to try it and i thought it was pretty nice but i like the mint chocolate chip better. we went back home and ate our ice cream and watched the nanny on tv. that show is actually very annoying. ever notice that the families on that show never spank their children?
anyways, after that, ben and i looked at old family pictures for a while. it was really fun. ben was such a CUTE little boy! he he. ok, lah. going to sleep now.
